Devereux has established itself as one of the few sets in the country with barristers who are experts in this specialised area of practice. With counsel ranging in seniority from silks to junior members, we have considerable expertise in the crown and magistrates courts.
We have significant experience in advising and representing corporate bodies and individuals in prosecutions arising from serious industrial accidents. We act in matters attracting public controversy, as well as those which are highly confidential, dealing with both with the same tact and discretion.
Although fatal accident cases are a particular niche (having acted in cases ranging from roller-coaster accidents, railway workers, port fatalities and construction accidents), we have considerable experience of mainstream factories accidents, including those involving plant and machinery, and of cases involving the full range of health and safety breaches with non-fatal consequences.
We also possess expertise that extends beyond prosecutions into advisory work with clients following an accident, to assistance with appeals against prohibition and improvement notices, as well as longer-term advice on risk management issues and drafting safety policies.
Our members have the advantage of possessing experience of the criminal courts which, combined with the expertise from our strong personal injury practice, gives them a unique insight and understanding of industrial risk assessment and regulatory issues.
Members of Chambers co-wrote Health & Safety - The New Legal Framework (Butterworths).
