Football Association successfully defends race claim
The Football Association has successfully defended a claim of race and sex discrimination brought by a former coach who claimed that the FA had discriminated against her in connection with an investigation into her irregular expense claims and subsequent dismissal by reason of redundancy.
The Employment Tribunal determined that the expenses investigation had been warranted and properly conducted and that the Claimant’s later redundancy in the context of the FA’s restructure in response to Covid was not tainted by race or sex discrimination and was not an act of victimisation or whistleblowing detriment.
The case has been widely reported in the national press, in The Times, The Telegraph, and The Daily Mail.
Sebastian Purnell acted for the Football Association, instructed by Travers Smith.
