Will the Trade Union Bill help or hinder industrial relations?
The current junior doctors’ strike is very much in the news and the broader subject ‘industrial relations’ is therefore a topical one. With the House of Lords’ Select Committee considering the Trade Union Bill, the timing could not be more apt for Bruce Carr QC to share his views on the likely effect of the proposed new legislation.
Bruce was appointed by the coalition government in 2014 to conduct a review of the law relating to industrial disputes. In an opinion piece, he shares some of his concerns about the impact of the Bill should it become law. Concluding that the Bill is unlikely to improve the climate of industrial relations, he sets out why he comes to that view by looking at a number of the proposed clauses and their effects in the future.
