Anna Greenley acts on behalf of the Government Legal Department in judicial review proceedings.
On 7th and 8th July the High Court in London will hear a judicial review brought by six couples who wish to marry by means of legally recognised humanist ceremonies. The Claimants assert that the legislation governing marriage in England & Wales discriminates against them when compared with religious groups, contrary to Article 14 European Convention on Human Rights (read with Articles 9, 12 and/or 8), and seek a declaration of incompatibility pursuant to section 4 of the Human Rights Act 1998.
Anna Greenley appears for the Government Legal Department led by Richard O’Brien of 4 New Square.
