Bruce Carr QC publishes report following Review of the Law Governing Industrial Disputes
In April this year, the Government commissioned an independent review, led by Bruce Carr QC, to provide an assessment of the alleged use of extreme tactics in industrial disputes, including so-called leverage tactics, and the effectiveness of the legal framework to prevent inappropriate or intimidatory actions in trade disputes.
The report which he produced as chair of this independent review was published on 15th October 2014. In accordance with the announcement made on 5 August, Bruce Carr declined to make any recommendations for any changes to the current legal framework. That announcement followed an analysis of the available evidence on which to base any recommendations. It also followed the Conservative Party press statement made on 18 July 2014 outlining manifesto proposals for changes to the law relating to industrial relations.
