Ingrid Simler QC elected to succeed Colin Edelman QC as Head of Devereux
Devereux is pleased to announce that Ingrid Simler QC has been elected to succeed Colin Edelman QC as Head of Chambers. Ingrid takes up the position with immediate effect and will hold the office for five years. Colin had previously announced his intention to stand down at the end of his second five year term.
Colin Edelman QC has been Head of Chambers since 2002. He has played a significant role in the success of Devereux. Colin took a leadership role in recognising that in an increasingly competitive environment it is important to professionalise the running of Chambers. This led to a modernisation programme backed by members that included restructuring of the Clerks’ Room and the recruitment in 2010 of Vince Plant (formerly of Fountain Court) as Head of Clerking Services as well as Beverly Landais in 2009 as Chambers’ first CEO. During the same period, there was a total refurbishment of Chambers to enhance the client experience and create a better working environment for members and staff. In 2011 Devereux was nominated as ‘Client Service Set of the Year’ for the Chambers UK Bar awards.
Commenting on her election as Head of Chambers, Ingrid said “Under Colin’s leadership, Chambers has made significant advances in all practice areas over the past ten years. We have won external accolades for the quality of our work and recognition for the quality of service to our clients. We have excellent barristers at all levels; and loyal and dedicated staff who work hard to support us. Devereux is a place where people can fulfil their ambitions and enjoy the benefits of being part of a friendly, modern and well run Chambers. My goal as the new Head of Chambers is to build on these achievements and continue to strengthen the cohesiveness and collegiality, across all practice areas.”
