Robert Weir KC, Jonathan Butters, and Thomas Westwell to appear in Supreme Court car finance appeals
Robert Weir KC, Jonathan Butters, and Thomas Westwell are appearing in the Supreme Court this week in the hearing of three important appeals in relation to car finance, representing the claimant consumers (Johnson v FirstRand, Wrench v FirstRand and Hopcraft v Close Brothers). The claimants, represented by the Devereux team, succeeded against the defendant lenders in the Court of Appeal last year: see here.
The appeals concern commissions which the lenders paid to car dealers arranging finance for the consumers, but which were either undisclosed or only partially disclosed. The hearing in the Supreme Court runs from Tuesday 1 April to Thursday 3 April, with oral submissions for the claimants scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday. The hearing can be watched live on the Supreme Court website.
The appeals have been extensively covered in the press, including in recent days by The BBC, The Financial Times, The Guardian, and The Times.
The Devereux team are instructed by Kavon Hussain of Consumer Rights Solicitors and Kevin Durkin of HD Law.
