The taxpayer in Professional Game Match Officials Limited v HMRC given permission to appeal to the Supreme Court
The taxpayer in Professional Game Match Officials Limited v HMRC [2021] EWCA Civ 1370 has been given permission to appeal to the Supreme Court. Devereux Counsel are instructed on both sides of the proceedings: Georgia Hicks and Harry Sheehan (led by Jonathan Peacock KC of 11 New Square Chambers) are instructed for the taxpayer and Akash Nawbatt KC and Sebastian Purnell are instructed on behalf of the Revenue. This will be the first time a case concerning the test for employee status (as opposed to worker status) has come before the Supreme Court in recent years. The hearing before the Supreme Court will take place in 2023.
