Vince Plant – A Tribute
We are immensely saddened to have to share the news of the sudden and unexpected death of our Chambers Director, Mike ‘Vince’ Plant.
Vince was a great friend and colleague as well as a fine leader of the Clerks’ Room. He brought compassion and humanity to all his decisions and dealings with others, and was an exemplary manager of people. He was devoted to his family and we send our heartfelt condolences and sympathy to his wife Jen and his three children.
Vince joined Fountain Court Chambers straight out of school and worked his way to Deputy Senior Clerk the hard way – over 20 years growing to become the ultimate all-round clerk through natural talent and sheer determination. Senior members of Fountain Court remember him as “not just a terrific clerk; he was a lovely human being”.
In 2010 Vince joined Devereux as the new Head of Clerking Services and after three years he was promoted to Chambers Director. His leadership over the last decade has led to a transformation with Chambers winning multiple awards, building its reputation in its existing fields of expertise and adding a substantial new team of tax practitioners to further enhance its offering to clients. Vince was celebrating further silk and barrister of the year awards only days before his untimely passing. Vince’s tireless work to train and support junior members of Chambers and staff was remarkable and dozens of successful clerks around the Temple owe their careers to his patient mentoring.
We have been touched by the tributes that members of the Bar and solicitors have already paid to Vince. Andrew Burns KC will collect these and any further contributions to pass on to his family.
